Frequently asked questions about Fractyl3D.

Explore our helpful answers below to learn more about our 3D CAD platform for students and teachers.

Do I have to download Fractyl3D?

No, Fractyl3D is completely free and browser‑based. You can open it on any device with an internet connection, and it works instantly without downloads, installations, or special hardware. Just log in and start creating.

What student data is collected?

Fractyl3D only collects the information necessary to save student work. When students sign up or log in, the platform stores their email address, and user ID (or the part before the “@” if no name is provided), and role (student names are not stored).

Fractyl3D also saves 3D project information including project names, descriptions, timestamps, scene data, collaboration settings, and submission history. For assignments, the platform stores grading and feedback details such as which project was submitted, submission time, marks, teacher comments, and group feedback when applicable. Students may upload files like PDFs or images as part of their work, and Fractyl3D securely stores the file name, file path, and the file itself. Teachers can access files related to their classes, while students can view their own submissions and returned feedback.

Is Fractyl3D free?

Yes, Fractyl3D is fully free for both teacher accounts and student accounts. Every classroom can access all core features, including real‑time modeling, collaboration tools, assignment tracking, and presentation mode, without any subscription fees or paid upgrades. Fractyl3D is designed to be accessible to every school and every learner.

How can I collaborate on a project?

To collaborate on a project in Fractyl3D, simply save your project and look for the share icon on the homepage. Enter the email address of the person you want to collaborate with, and they’ll instantly receive access. Your collaborator can then open the project from their student portal under the Shared With Me tab, where all shared projects are organized for easy access. Collaboration works in real time, allowing multiple users to edit and build together directly in the browser.

Do I have to be a teacher to create a classroom?

No, you don’t need to work as a teacher in real life, but you do need a teacher account to create and manage classrooms in Fractyl3D. Once you’re logged in with a teacher account, you can access the teacher portal, where students can join your classroom, and you can create groups, assign work, track submissions, grade projects, and provide feedback. Everything is managed directly in the browser, making it easy to run a full digital classroom from anywhere.
